Starting and ending breaks

If automated breaks have been enabled for your company, you will receive reminders to take your breaks according to the length of your shift, and the rules applied to your company's break settings.

You will clock into shifts as normal from your Dashboard screen, but after a certain length of time has passed, when you use the option to start your break, you will also see that you can select the type of break that you are starting: either a meal break or a rest break.

For accounts that have both meal and rest breaks programmed, employees can choose to start a rest break or a meal break:

Note that you will not have access to begin a break until you have clocked 2 hours of working time.

When you begin a break, you'll see what time you started, so that you can keep track of when you'll need to return to work.

You'll also be able to receive reminders that your break is ending.

If you attempt to end your break too early and your employer does not allow for the early ending of breaks, you will get a notice indicating that you have more time left on your break:

When you clock out for the end of your shift, you'll notice any breaks you did not take or that you ended earlier highlighted in red. That way if there is something you need to provide details about, you can include a timesheet note for managers to review.

If attestation is also enabled on the account and you did not take a required break, you will be prompted to confirm whether or not you took the break when you clock out of their shift.

Please note: All employees will be able to see Dashboard notifications within the Sling app (as long as they have not been disabled), but it's important that you have also enabled push notifications in order to receive reminders directly on your phone.
