Staffing levels affect many aspects of a business. While understaffing often leads to inferior customer service and overworked staff, scheduling too many employees directly affects profitability.

With Sling, building the schedule using Unassigned shifts helps to ensure that your business is staffed appropriately on any given day.

Create your schedule structure within the unassigned shifts field

The week-range view of your schedule defaults to display the unassigned shifts section at the top.

You can schedule unassigned shifts using this section, adding slots to specify the number of employees required for each job. Slots serve as shift targets and help create the required number of shifts faster and with more precision.

If you use the blue create shift button rather than clicking the + in the unassigned shift section of the week view, as long as you do not save an employee to the shift, it will become an unassigned shift.

Please note that both unassigned shifts and available shifts show "no employee" in the month view of the schedule.

Pro tip: If you do not need to see the unassigned section, you can hide it using the Events filter! Likewise, if you would like to focus solely on the unassigned shifts, you can also opt to deselect Scheduled shifts and Available shifts to make it easier to focus on only what you need. Assign shifts and track the remaining staffing requirements

As you assign some of your unassigned shifts, you'll see the number of slots reduced to reflect the number of people still needed; once you assign them all, you'll know your business is staffed appropriately.

Slots are available with a paid subscription to Sling.

For more details about the different subscription options and the features included with each type of subscription, you can visit the Billing page of your account, or visit Sling's website.
